Questions for reflection on Luke 1:26:
  1. The words of the Magnificat were banned in countries across the globe from the time of Caesar to the 1980s uprising in Guatemala. Why would governments be concerned with it?
  2. The magnificat suggests that God takes sides. Whose side?
  3.  What is the significance that these words come from the lips of a poor woman? How would they sound coming from the lips of the high priest of the temple, or Caesar?

Questions for reflection on Mark 1:1-8:
  1. “Prepare the way of the Lord, make his paths straight”. What paths need to be made straight in your life as we prepare for the arrival of the Lord?
  2. Has repentance and confession ever been something you desired to do, so much so that you would go out into the wilderness to see John the Baptist?
  3.  Why were the people flocking to John rather than to the temple since that was the place to deal with sin?
